Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status with his folk-based pop songs with a lot of them being set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and later moved to Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have attracted many people to Colorado. G. Denver is now the embodiment of Colorado to the people all over. People you meet in other countries, like New Zealanders, and they ask them "I am Colorado" and they say "I am from Colorado" And they react with "Oh John Denver. Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short period in small folk ensembles. Danoff composed the tune to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the potential of the single the moment he heard it for the first time. He recorded it a couple of days after performing in Washington D.C. before an crowd that was extremely enthusiastic.
